Vivienne Westwood's spring summer 2015 men's show drew a full house of guests, which included pop-singer Joe Jonas of the recently de-banded Jonas Brothers -- everyone jam-packed into the sweltering fashion space of Milan's Museo della Permanente.
A champion of various environmental causes like climate change and fracking, Dame Vivienne Westwood used this collection to promote her fight against cheap meat from animal factories, abuse of animals destined for slaughter, and more specifically the Pig Pledge Organization.
In a way, her collection, modeled by men wearing cartoonish pig noses and sinister penciled eyebrows, combined with the lack of air conditioning in the summer heat, was like a rude awakening to the issue at hand.
The collection, crowned with mad-hatterish, comical top hats, black blazers with ripped, streamer coattails and scarecrow-looking sweaters with stocking-like shreds ripping through them like a meat shredder, seemed like a direct reference to the injustice of the food processing industry.
"If you want to fight for justice, you have to fight the law," Westwood told reporters. "The law is made to support only those in power."
Beach wear in the form of gaucho pants, swimming trunks, and a matching vest, all in coordinated Copacabana-ish floral print, provided the array with a much-needed reprieve from the intentional tattered-battered look of the collection.
Backstage, Jonas, elegantly over-dressed for the Milan humid summer in a black and white suit, seemed undaunted by the heat and graciously spoke to Westwood and the press.
"I think the message behind the collection was powerful," he told Now Fashion, noting that his favorite part of the collection was a pair of black and white check sweatpants - one of of the more simple items in Westwood's audacious political parade.
